Volunteers
United Way of Gaston County holds several events each year where volunteers are vital.
- We hold a United Way Service Day. Non-profits in Gaston County may submit projects that are needed by their organizations. Volunteer Teams apply to help. United Way pairs Volunteer Teams with projects. Everything takes place on one, busy, fun day. Many businesses use this day of service as a team building opportunity for their staff.
- United Way administers the Christmas Wishes Program in November and December. Applications are accepted from families who need assistance during the holidays. The program serves children and senior citizens. Volunteers adopt a child or senior to supply Christmas gifts for. Volunteers also help gather gifts for Wishes that are not adopted and package them for families to pick-up. Still more volunteers help with distribution. For anyone who enjoys playing Santa, this is a volunteer opportunity for you!
- The United Way Campaign runs during the last third of the year. Volunteers make up the Campaign Cabinet that plan Campaign themes and events. They assist staff with individual corporate campaigns.
Collections
We organize and participate in collections when items are needed in the community. We collect school tools for students, Christmas gifts for children, and disaster relief when needed. We will initiate collections when human services agencies run short on items they need to help their clients.
Please contact us before you start a collection. We will be happy to help you know what is needed and how to best get items to where they can be well used.
