Gaston County United Way Now Accepting Applications for Hurricane Helene Relief Funding
Gastonia, N.C. – (September 2025) – The Gaston County United Way is now accepting applications from nonprofit organizations serving residents who were impacted by Hurricane Helene.
As we approach the one-year mark of the devastating storm that struck Western North Carolina, we recognize that many families in our own community continue to face hardships. Locally, more than 8,000 households in Gaston County received D-SNAP (Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance) which is a temporary food assistance program for households that have experienced significant loss or damage due to a disaster. Many of these residents are still experiencing challenges related to housing, utilities, and other basic needs.
To address these ongoing needs, Gaston County United Way has established a Hurricane Helene Funding Allocation. Nonprofit agencies currently providing assistance to affected individuals and families are invited to apply for funding support.
How to Apply: Nonprofit agencies may request a Hurricane Helene Application by emailing unitedway@unitedwaygaston.org. A United Way associate will provide access to the online application form.
Application Deadline: Friday, September 26, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.
“Recovery after a disaster doesn’t happen overnight,” said Andrea Stephens, President of the Gaston County United Way. “Our goal is to support the nonprofit organizations on the front lines, ensuring that families continue to receive the resources and stability they need.”
